Manoj Srivastava

Founder

MSM Worldwide is an initiative by Manoj Srivastava, Ex CEO, Entertainment Society of Goa who headed the International Film Festival of India, for Goa Government and headed National Film Awards for eight years at the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. With 15 years of experience heading international film festivals, programming for various international film festivals, Manoj Srivastava established Goa as a Film Destination by transplanting film business from Mumbai and Chennai to Goa​.

​Having served on international film festival juries, he was appointed an Observer at the Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale), European Film Market in the years 2012 and 2013. He has been awarded by Russian and Polish governments, and often quoted in media publications such as Motion Picture Association of America, Ernst and Young and several others. He has delivered lectures in several institutions such as IIT Delhi, IIM Ahmedabad, FTII Pune, Amity University to name a few. As a graduate of Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, he is actively working in the field of cinema since last 30 years.

​He is on the board of MSM Worldwide, a Film distribution and marketing company; India Shoots, a film production company and Indian Film Institute; an NGO dedicated for development of Indian Cinema globally. Commissioned by Penguin India to write the world's largest Encyclopedia on Indian Cinema, he has decades old wide ranging global connections. He currently heads Jagran Film Festival, which is organized in 17 cities of India over a period of three months with a total reach of 50 million people.

 

Beginning his career with the State Broadcaster, Doordarshan in 1985, he worked his way up the ladder producing programme like The Big Question with Karan Thapar and Mirror of the World for DD News.

 

Between 2000 and 2008, he served at the Directorate of Film Festivals as Deputy Director handling National Film Awards, International Film Festival of India (now IFFI Goa), Cultural Exchange Programmes, Special Film Festivals, Publishing of film journals and catalogues and Stage Shows.

 

From 2008 to 2012, as Chief Executive Officer, Entertainment Society of Goa, Government of Goa, he headed IFFI Goa for Goa Government, established Goa as a film destination by launching the single window clearance system for film shoots in goa.

35 years in handling FIlm and Television Productions, International Film Festivals and Content Distribution across the globe.

Career

Srivastava was a student at Hans Raj College, University of Delhi. In 1985 he joined Doordarshan, the Indian national broadcaster. Later, he studied at Max Muller Bhavan, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, New Delhi. Srivastava went to The Film and Television Institute of India, Pune in 1989 as a student and completed his professional education in Film and Television Production. Till 2000, he worked as a Television Producer for 15 years before joining the International Film Festival of India. Srivastava continued with the Festival for 12 years in various capacities and established Goa as a Film Destination. He is credited with achieving a business volume of over Rupees 100 crores for Goa.

At Doordarshan, in a career span of 15 years, he directed a number of TV shows, music videos, Chat Shows, Documentary Films, Short Films, Tele Films, Dramas, Live broadcasts of countless national and international events and happenings. As part of DD News, he set up the transmission plans of the Channel and directed some of the famous TV Shows like ‘The Big Question’ with Karan Thapar,Mirror of the World, Luxor Quiz Contest. He also covered the Kargil War and the Hijack of AI 814 to Kandhar.

Film & Television

He directed the film, HUM PANCHHI EK DAL KE, (OF HAVES AND HAVE-NOTS)- a short film screened in Cannes Film Festival in 2008 and 21 other film festivals across the globe.

 

Directed award winning Television films like Aloye Phera. Popular TV Serials like Luxor film Time (DD1), My India Quiz contest (DD1), the BIG Question by Karan Thapar (DD News), Mirror of the World (DD News), Reality Shows, TV Magazines and over 16 Documentary Films​

 

Some of his better known films are ‘The Desert Festival’, ‘Zamana Kya Kahega’, ‘Dastaan e Dilli’, ‘Dilli Tha Ek Shahar’, ‘Caught in a Crossfire’, ‘Hari Om Hari’, ‘All Quiet on this Front’, ‘Ajeeb Dastan Hai Ye’, ‘The Way They Marched Ahead’, ‘Kargil- The Untold Stories’ (Series) and The Troubled Waters’.

Publications

Srivastava has been writing on cinema for over two decades for publications like the Times of India, The Hindustan Times, BNA Germany, Pickle, Lokmat, Navhind Times, Herald Goa, Screen etc.  His writings on Charlie Chaplin and Guru Dutt are considered landmark and quoted often.

 

  • He wrote extensively on Indian and Foreign Cinema.

  • Wrote a Book on the history of Indian Cinema “WIDE ANGLE: HISTORY OF INDIAN CINEMA” an encyclopedic work, likely to be released in May 2016.

  • Wrote book, ‘Young minds of Indian Cinema’ is about to be launched.

  • Commissioned by Penguin India, to write ‘Who’s Who of Indian Cinema’, the world’s largest encyclopedia.

  • Wrote a fiction novel in English language ‘Once Upon a Time in Kashmir’ is complete. A film is being made on it.

  • Wrote a Non-fiction ‘Dilli 6’ which is a book on the old Delhi presenting its liberal and tolerant culture, exclusive heritage, food streets, people their angst and beliefs. Ready for publishing.

  • Wrote extensively on Cinema for foreign film publications ​
